About the session:
The ability for a team to deliver value end-2-end is crucial for agility.
However, most organisations encounter challenges with dependencies on other teams, departments, or even key individuals, making it very difficult, if not impossible, for a single team to own the entire value chain.
What, then, do we mean by ownership?
How does it differ from responsibility or accountability?
Understanding these nuances will help development teams clarify roles and expectations within the organisation:
Are we merely coding monkeys, or are we striving to be a product team?
Do we only focus on producing code or do we also care about the business outcome?
Ideally, we want to eliminate the pesky dependencies that hinder proper end-to-end ownership. But, are they perhaps inevitable? If so, what then?
Can we still own the end-2-end value chain and have dependencies to other teams? And could some dependencies actually be a good thing?
We will address these questions in this session, focusing on actionable exercises and workshop activities that you can implement in your organisation tomorrow to demystify end-to-end ownership.
Through the lens of an e-commerce payment team’s experiences as a case study, we will explore:
- How to assess a team’s current level of ownership
- How to map a team’s current and desired state concerning engineering autonomy and breadth of shared ownership across the product domain.
- How to devise actions and strategies to enhance ownership
This session will offer valuable insights for agile coaches, team leads, and agile team members aiming to elevate their delivery process.
By the end of this session, you’ll be equipped with the tools necessary to foster discussions on end-to-end ownership, empowering your team to move beyond the ‘it’s not my job’ mindset towards a culture of collective success and continuous improvement.
